In this year of celebration of the Queen’s coronation, it is fitting that the winners of the Reigate District Cub Cooking Competition chose a menu with Coronation Chicken. Eleven teams entered the annual competition, held at 5th Reigate Headquarters in Battlebridge Lane, Merstham on Saturday 4th February. Cooking is very popular in Scouting and each team was to devise the menu, prepare, cook and serve a two course meal for one person, with a theme being ‘A meal fit for a Queen’. There is intense rivalry to produce the best plate of food but the team from 30th Reigate won this year with a menu of Coronation chicken with a zesty twist, served with Queen salad and Royal rice. Dessert was chocolate pudding with jewel encrusted fruit, all this for no more than £5. This inspired menu and cooking earned the team top place and they will now go forward to represent Reigate District in the Surrey County Cub cooking competition.

The completion was split between morning and afternoon and the overall top three were

1st place - 30th Reigate - 40 points

2nd place - 6th Reigate - 36 points

3rd place - 34th Reigate - 35 points
